The Foundation is committed to enhancing the capacity of local initiatives that bring tangible added value to the sustainable development of society.

This support takes several forms; it combines financial support with concrete guidance regarding the sustainability of supported projects, with the facilitation of networking with related projects or useful resource people and added visibility through media coverage and publications.

Future Generations Grand Prix
The Future Generations Grand Prix, which honours projects with outstanding records in the field of sustainable development.

HERA - Higher Education & Research Awards for Future Generations
HERA is an initiative that aims to support the taking into account of sustainable development in scientific research and higher education.

  • Master's Thesis Award for Future Generations - Architecture
  • Doctoral Thesis Award for Future Generations

Calls for Initiatives

Calls for initiatives create high profiles for local projects. For those not approved, contacts with related projects and useful persons are offered. 

  • Future Smile (youth aged 16-25, across Belgium): Call "Generation Rio" 2011 - Calls 2007 to 2010
  • Calls for initiatives 2006 - 2003 - 2000 - 1998

Methodological support

Agenda Iris 21
At the request of the Brussels-Capital Region, the Foundation is providing methodological support to municipalities in that wish to develop a Local Agenda 21. This support is part of the accompanying programme of the call for projects "Agenda Iris 21" set up by Brussels Environment and the Association of the City and Municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region.

Strategic Financial investments

The Foundation invests part of its endowment in companies whose economic activity is consistent with its own values, respectufl of the people and the planet, encouraging sustainable and innovative entrepreneurship.
